Between playing keys with the critically acclaimed Brisbane rock outfit Halfway and uniting a who’s who of Australian music to produce the AIR award nominated album The Painted Ladies Play Selections From The Loner, celebrating the genius of Vic Simms, Luke Daniel Peacock has somehow managed to find time to create his own debut solo effort and it’s definitely worth your time and attention.

A talented solo artist in his own right Luke Daniel Peacock, We’ve Come a Long Way, Darling is a collection of Luke’s solo works, the culmination of over a decade of musical exploration and inspiration via collaboration.

Having worked with Rusty Hopkinson (You Am I), The Medics, Paul Kelly, Ed Kuepper (The Saints), Ian Haug (Powderfinger/The Church), John Wilsteed (The Go- Betweens), Bunna Lawrie (Coloured Stone), Phil Noy & Eugene Ball (The Bamboos) and many more, Luke Daniel Peacock is definitely the most underrated and overachieving local talents working right now.

Dreambox

This is the first single from the record. The lyrics had been around forever but never really found a home until I put this album together.

It’s not the sort of thing I usually write about, but I felt compelled to get something off my chest. It’s basically addressing how people often wanna argue about something when there is really no argument to be had.

Fruits Of Our Labour

The 2nd single from the record. It’s a kinda twisted take on one of those Irish blessings. It’s a goodbye and a well-wishing at the end of a failed and probably fleeting romance. I guess it’s just telling someone that shit happens and there’s no regrets and no hard feelings and hoping that one day the person will find a bit more contentment in themselves.

Mali

Mali is a fictional character based on someone who’s living a simple life. Someone who’s enjoying what the modern world has lost sight of but secretly wishes it hadn’t.

Alphabet City

This song has a bit of a Bonnie & Clyde thing going on. I was out at a shitty Valley bar with a friend a few years back and they were blasting out Liza Minelli’s version of New York, New York.

We started fantasising about robbing the place and taking the next flight there, which led to other ways she could use her charm to distract rich dudes while I robbed them. Purely fantastical.

Born Into A Battle

There’s always that person that has some sort of incapability to pull their head in, so instead they devote their time fucking with yours. It’s sad and frustrating and sometimes enough’s enough. It’s kinda saying that no-one ever really has it as easy as you may think.

Trees

My friends and I were having a rough time a few years back because one of the boys made a decision that we couldn’t understand. This was my attempt to put myself in his shoes and try to provide that understanding.

Midnight

This is the first song I ever wrote. I was 16. It was the first time I truly missed someone.

My Shit

Just me being a self-depricating loser.

In The Sun

Another one written early on and another one about trying to understand why people to weird stuff. I now know why. Acid.

We’ve Come A Long Way, Darling

This started purely as the title and the idea it brings. I was trying to be optimistic at a time when I was really struggling to not focus on shitty things, particularly in regards to our nation.

It somehow became a far more intimate love song about defiance and survival on a personal level. it’s still somewhat metaphoric though.
