It was a simpler time, a time when it didn’t matter if you were into indie or dance, because they had morphed into the same thing. If you didn’t read NME, you pretended to, and carried your iPod Nano inside your Julian Casablancas-style military jacket.

If you were a guy, your haircut was inspired by Pete Doherty or Carl Barat and it was a frequent guest in pics uploaded to Streetparty.net.au, pics you’d look at and make fun of, believing yourself to be every bit as witty and cool as Alex Turner.

Yes, it was 2007 and the world still seemed to make some sense. Seriously, despite the amount of posturing we saw in photos from Click Click, there was a certain optimism and enthusiasm in the air in 2007, particularly about music – it was cool to like bands.

Well for one night, you can relive your 2007 salad days. Melbourne’s Brown Alley is taking us back to when Justice’s debut had just come out on Ed Banger Records, Daft Punk were completing their Alive tour, and Calvin Harris was still best known for ‘Acceptable in the 80’s’.

“Sneaky Sound System is in the 25 Most Played playlist on your brightly coloured iPod Nano and you know all the words to ‘The Salmon Dance’,” Brown Alley write. “The music videos for ‘Destination Calabria’ and ‘My People’ are on high rotation on Channel [V].”

“Find your best pair of fluro wayfarer shaped sunglasses because it’s time to party like it’s ‘07.” 2007: A Year In Dance, is set to go down Friday, 26th February and will see DJs spinning choice cuts from the likes of Justice, MSTRKRFT, Boys Noize, Uffie, Panda Bear, Bloc Party, and more.

If you’re not into dancing like a robot from 1984, the side room will be featuring indie hits from 2007, with cuts from Operator Please, Scissor Sisters, The Klaxons, The White Stripes, The Shins, Arctic Monkeys, and New Young Pony Club.
