Prince has died suddenly at the age of 57. The body of the rock and pop legend was discovered overnight at his Minneapolis home, the legendary Paisley Park, News Corp reports.
Authorities reportedly responded to a medical emergency at the residence at 9.43am. The singer was found unresponsive inside of an elevator.
“It is with profound sadness that I am confirming that the legendary, iconic performer, Prince Rogers Nelson, has died at his Paisley Park residence this morning at the age of 57,” Prince’s publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, told the Associated Press.
“There are no further details as to the cause of death at this time.” According to News Corp, a forensics team and a medical examiner are currently at the scene.
The news comes just two months after the singer, born Prince Rogers Nelson, visited Australia as part of his critically acclaimed Piano & a Microphone tour.
The singer was recently forced to postpone two of his Piano & a Microphone performances in Atlanta due to ill health.
As News Corp reports, a representative for the singer told TMZ earlier this month that Prince had been suffering from a bad case of the flu for several weeks after the singer was hospitalised on 15th April.
Tributes have begun to flow for the legend behind hits like ‘Purple Rain’ and ‘Raspberry Beret’, including from President Barack Obama, who in a statement mourned the loss of a “creative icon”.
