Melbourne’s favourite experimental psych/ alt rock trio BREVE are today unveiling the brand new video for their impressive single ‘Movement’.
The band describe the clip as “the most intense, psychedelic video clip you’ve seen since you smoked weed for the first time and huddled around your mates desktop computer watching Windows Media Player visualiser sync’d to God’s My Pal. Or maybe that’s just BREVE frontman/plasticine enthusiast, Dougal Shaw.” Whatever your vibe is, the clip is incredibly enthralling.
BREVE frontman to Dougal Shaw explains the message behind ‘Movement’ as “a commentary on the absurdity of modern urban life, societal structures and pressures to be ‘normal’, to keep your head straight. It’s about being strange and embracing change. The basic sentiment is ‘We’re all gonna end up the same when we’re dead, so I might as well be myself while I have the chance.’
“The video clip is an homage to 16-year-old me smoking weed for the first time huddling around the desktop with my pals watching Windows Media Player visualiser play along to our favourite tunes, or those early internet optical illusions that make you hallucinate. We would have been so into this haha. It’s like a bad trip. There’s so much going on and it’s hard to know what to focus on. Kind of like this modern urban life I mentioned.”
In July the crew are off to play their first international shows after being invited to play Secret Garden Party (UK) alongside bands like Primal Scream and Caribou.
Check out the clip for ‘Movement’ below and if you like what you’re hearing BREVE are playing a residency at Yah Yah’s, every Thursday in May to preview the forthcoming album and raise some funds for their euro trip – so go catch the guys in action.
