Kodiak Empire are a talented Brisbane five-piece who have today dropped their debut EP, Silent Bodies.

There’s an impressive variety of musicality on display here, as a heavy, prog-rock dirge suddenly breaks into twinkling keys on opener ‘Ocean and Sky’, or the drums hammer out an intricate, tumbling beat on ‘Pasa Doble’.

The vocals, too, deliver throughout, stamping their mark without wrenching attention away from heavily-layered, jazz-infused tracks like ‘Connochaetes’.

It’s a vicious but nuanced opening volley from the band, and we’re sure it’ll sound brilliant in a live setting when they head out on tour next week, dates below.
