A short snippet of a previously unheard Michael Hutchence song has surfaced online. An 11-second teaser of ‘Kik It’, a rousing hard rock number, was recently shared by Ron Creevey, ahead of Creevey’s new documentary on the late singer.
To mark the 20th anniversary of Hutchence’s death, Creevey is currently working on a documentary which will be accompanied with a collection of never before heard solo Hutchence recordings.
“We are very advanced. We are very developed with the documentary,” Creevey told Noise11. “We are halfway through the filming of it. On the music side, we are working with great producers being driven by Danny Saber.”
“We are not only taking what Michael did in the end but we are bringing it up to a standard for what is relevant for today. I would say ‘Kik It’ is one of the best songs I have heard in a very long time.”
“Michael’s fans are hearing all sorts of stories in the media so today we are going to give them that 11-second sample. This will give fans a teaser to what is coming.” Meanwhile, there’s another, authorised Hutchence doco in the works.
The authorised feature-length doco will be helmed by John Battsek, who produced the acclaimed documentary Searching for Sugar Man, and director Richard Lowenstein.
“I have been working on the definitive documentary film journey into the heart and soul of this complex, shy, poetic and exceptionally charismatic man for many years,” Lowenstein, who worked on several INXS music video, told Billboard.
The documentary is set to be released towards the end of 2017 and will come via Passion Pictures and Universal Music Group, the latter of whom co-produced the acclaimed, Oscar-winning 2015 Amy Winehouse documentary Amy.
