Sydney electronic duo Polographia have just released their shiny new EP Friends, packing recent singles ‘Sly’ ft. Winston Surfshirt and ‘Feels Alright’ ft. Looks Fade.

It’s been a big year for the duo, touring with Snakehips, joining the likes of RÜFÜS and What So Not on their new label Sweat It Out, and hooking up some great collabs for the new record. So, with the new record finally here and sounding smooth as silk, we’ve had a chat with them about the process behind each track.

The Friends EP is available now through Sweat It Out, and you’ll be able to catch it all live as Polographia head out on a national tour later this month, dates below.

‘Feels Alright’ ft. Looks Fade

We both quickly noticed that this track felt like one of those tracks that takes you back down memory lane or even makes you think about the future. We couldn’t help but always think about all the great moments we’ve had with friends every time we heard it. Looks Fade really did a number on this track! It will surely not be the last collab we do with him.

‘Sly’ ft. Winston Surfshirt

Sly is quite special… This is the track that started a fresh new beginning for us. We had finally found our sound and the perfect guy to help us out. This was lingering around for a really long time and at one point we actually gave up and forgot it with the rest of our demos. Eventually we decided to bring it back to life and send it to Winston. After he sent the first demo back, we knew it wasn’t something to sleep on and it grew into something we’re proud of.

‘Electric’

This is just a fun jammy kind of track, with some good energy. It was funk all the way and we love a bit of sampling, it’s just too much fun to ignore! We’re real big on saxophones too as you can probably tell.

‘Scotch’

This track went through a few stages to see how far we could push our sound. It’s real chopped up but spacious at the same time. We were listening to a lot of Tame Impala at the time, which kinda influenced how we wanted the track to feel. We wanted to make some parts unexpected and electronic but also keeping that Polographia feel, like a smooth scotch.

‘Hurricane’ ft. Goodbye Moon

We had to bring the boys back again! We’re real big fans of theirs and they have a real bright future ahead. Tim’s voice always gets our attention and like always, we thought he was perfect for this. We wanted to make it real bouncy and have a nice beat behind it. We used the same bass sound throughout the EP which gave Hurricane the Polo touch. Playing this song live is gonna be a lot of fun!
