Controversial One Nation politician Pauline Hanson is no stranger to resentment and angry, sometimes comical reactions to what she stands for, but the last few days have seen a brutal reaction from the Australian Indigenous community.
Speaking on The Bolt Report on Monday night, Hanson took an opportunity to espouse her views once again. “What defines an Aboriginal?” Hanson questioned.
“Do you know there’s no definition to an Aboriginal? If you marry an Aboriginal you can be classified as an Aboriginal. Or if a community, or the elders accept you into that community, you can be defined as an Aboriginal? And that’s not good enough. Because then, if you make a comment about it, well what are you? Are you an Aboriginal or not an Aboriginal?”
Many users on Twitter, including many Indigenous Australian musicians such as Briggs, The Funkoars’ Trials, and Tasman Keith, all weighed in with their thoughts on the issue, under the hashtag ‘#DefineAboriginal’.

While Briggs drew attention to the recent controversy surrounding Bill Leak’s cartoon in The Australian, Trials and Tasman Keith drew attention to the sad realities that many Indigenous Australians face in Australia today.
Sadly, there has been no response from Pauline Hanson in regards to the controversy, or anything resembling an apology for the comments made on Monday night.
