In what could be a game-changer for armchair DJs everywhere, Tidal has introduced a new feature called Track Edit, which lets users change the length and tempo of any track.
You can then save these tracks into a playlist, and whammo, you’ve got a beat-matched DJ set, which you can then pretend to do in real time while checking Facebook during your sets. If you’re more of a traditionalist, you can actually manipulate songs in real time while listening to them, too.
So, if you’ve ever thought that a song sounded sluggish, you can now sort this out without using editing software.
No doubt the other streaming platforms will introduce this feature, soon, although we predict that artists who maybe not want their work tampered with in this manner might kick against it, especially if Spotify or Apple Music implement it. It will certainly throw up some interesting legal questions.
