Anyone who has ever been followed by a moon shadow, remembered the days of the old school yard, or realised how wild a world we live in, will relate to the music of Cat Stevens.
In March, Yusuf/Cat Stevens announced what will be only his fourth tour of Australia, and shows sold so quickly that Cat was forced to add three more to the tour: second shows at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, the ICC Sydney Theatre, and Brisbane’s Entertainment Centre.
Stevens has a massive Australian audience; his 1972 album Catch Bull At Four spent a remarkable 15 weeks on top of the ARIA charts.
In 1977 he converted to Islam and took the name Yusuf Islam, releasing one final album in 1978 under the name ‘Cat Stevens’ before retiring from popular music for close to three decades, and disowning most of his secular music – a stance he has since softened on.
In 2006 he emerged, and released An Other Cup, his first of three albums under the name Yusuf.
Tickets to the new shows go on sale on Tuesday 16 May, at 10am.
