It seems like the next logical step that you have to make as a well-established rock star is to compose a film score. Why, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis have done it, Arcade Fire have done it, and Radiohead’s Johnny Greenwood is pretty adept at it by now. But it seems as though the most recent rocker to put their name on the closing credits of a film is Josh Homme, from that humble rock outfit known as Queens Of The Stone Age.
As Pitchfork reports, Homme was chosen by German director Fatih Akin to compose the music for his newest film In The Fade, which was actually named after a Queens Of The Stone Age song of the same name.
“When I was writing this, I was listening to a lot of music by Queens of the Stone Age. I had the feeling that this could be the music that the character was listening to. It has a self-destructive attitude and somehow the film is about self-destruction,” Akim said. “I sent him a very early version of the film. He immediately called back saying he loved it and was blown away and that he would like to put his hands on it.”
In The Fade focuses on a German woman, played by Diane Kruger, who is out to get revenge on the neo-Nazi group that murdered her husband and son. The movie saw its release at the Cannes Film Festival this week, but won’t see a widespread release until November of this year.
