Fountaineer’s debut album, Greater City, Greater Love, sounds like a classic Australian album: rich with rural imagery and epic soundscapes that bounce from Arcade Fire-inspired might to the wide open road of The Triffids and other “big” sounding Australian bands from the ’80s.
The three-piece are named after the fountain in the centre of their hometown Bendigo, a place that inspired a lot of the tunes on Greater City Greater Love.
While not strictly a concept album, the record is thematically concise — a love letter to their home town of Bendigo — and to this end, the band are releasing the vinyl version of the album with a charming, hand-drawn 20-page zine which takes on similar hometown themes.
