Well, if we were ever going to see Divinyls back onstage following the passing of legendary frontwoman Chrissy Amphlett, this is exactly how we’d want it to happen, as they announce they’ll be reuniting for a single show with The Preatures’ frontwoman Izzi Manfredi.
Both Izzi and her bandmate Jack Moffit will join Divinyls’ Mark McEntee, Richard Harvey and Rick Grossman for the show, which will be the first live set from the Aussie icons in almost an entire decade.
“We would’ve moved heaven and earth to do this show,” Manfredi has told her fans. “My job is to do Chrissy proud here, but also honour the life of the songs and the original lineup. It’s a moment in time.”
We’ve got no doubt she’ll do just that, as she’s also staked her claim as one of our country’s finest frontwomen in her time with The Preatures, and she definitely looks the part as well.
The only strange part here is that the show will be taking place in Perth on September 17 – normally the one spot in Australia that complains of missing out on gigs, let alone getting an exclusive like this. As it turns out, the set will be a part of the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival, and festival director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan is understandably stoked to have a special moment like this as part of the event.
“Music has always had a powerful influence on style,” she says. “Especially in the past five decades, the music of the time has had such an impact on trends - just look at the 1960s and the flower power era.”
