Aerosmith’s enduring fearless frontman has opened a shelter to benefit and support abused women and girls.
The home is named ‘Janie’s House’ and is inspired by the band’s 1989 hit, ‘Janie’s Got a Gun’ which lyrically revolves around the themes of child abuse and incest, reportedly taking Tyler nine months to complete the writing process.
Tyler explained how he was inspired to open the home, “While I was in (rehab), I found out most of the women in there were battered and beaten and abused verbally and sexually in huge numbers,” he said. “It was like seven out of 10, eight out of 10.”
A symbolic “scarf cutting” signified the opening of the shelter on Wednesday (Dec 6) at the facility at Youth Villages’ Inner Harbour campus in Douglasville, Georgia. He went on to speak to TMZ about what the centre would provide saying, “it’s got a staff, it’s got some therapists, it’s got people for them to talk to and it’s got people for them to [help] deal with health issues.”
He also said that he was inspired by his own growth during 12-step rehab to open the shelter.
