Well folks, voting is now closed, so all we have to do now is just wait another couple of days until the 2017 Hottest 100 is counted down on Saturday, January 27th. Of course, considering that it’s one of the Aussie music fan’s biggest days, triple j have gone and done us a solid by giving us a sneak peek into the facts and figures that make up this year’s countdown.
Just a couple of days ago, triple j revealed that this year’s Hottest 100 countdown is set to be the biggest ever, having attracted a record-breaking 2,386,133 votes, a 5.81% increase from the votes cast last year. Of course, this despite all the calls for people to boycott this year’s countdown due to triple j’s ‘controversial’ decision to change the date of the Hottest 100.
Now, the station has delved even deeper into the world of stats and figures, and have delivered us some extra goodies too, including:
- This year sees 65 Aussie songs in the countdown, one less than last year’s record-breaking amount of 66.
- While 13 different countries were represented last year, the 2017 countdown sees ten different countries this time around. (And that includes the countries of those feature artists, if you were wondering!)
- This year sees 26 artists make their debut appearance in a Hottest 100 countdown, compared to just 23 in 2016.
- Meanwhile, eight artists appear for the third time in a countdown.
- Lastly, five songs in the countdown were uploaded to triple j Unearthed in 2017.
It’s all pretty exciting, isn’t it? Sort of makes us even more eager to find out just what the full countdown will look like.
Don’t forget, the Hottest 100-lover has plenty to choose from this week, so be sure to plan your weekend accordingly. This Saturday sees the Hottest 100 countdown taking place from 12pm AEST, with the #101-200 tunes being counted down the next day. Of course, if today’s music is a bit too far removed from your favourite era, you can also switch over to Double J, who will be counting down the full Hottest 100 of 1997 on Sunday, January 28th.
So while you’re going to have to wait until Saturday to find out which act takes out the #1 spot, you can rest assured knowing that it’s shaping up to be one of the best countdown’s yet.
