Bluesfest have continued to add on to what is already shaping up to be an amazing year, today announcing that Boomerang Festival, the beloved celebration of local and international Indigenous culture, will once again be part of this year’s celebrations.
Having first become part of Bluesfest in 2013, Boomerang is described as a dedicated First Nations program that aims to showcase excellence through performance and culture. Featuring artists from Arnhem Land, Canada, Papua New Guinea, Asia and the Pacific, this year’s event is set to feature brilliant music, educational workshops, and informative cultural exchanges that promote learning and equality.
“The Boomerang Festival sitting within Bluesfest, is a vital precinct that increases the visibility of our culture,” stated Boomerang Director Rhoda Roberts AO. “I want everyone to hear the music, witness the dance, sing the song and listen to the story.”
This year’s event is set to feature some huge names in the world of music, including The Strides, Sorong Samarai, Benny Walker, and Narasirato.
One notable addition to this year’s lineup is Yirrmal, who has recently risen to greater fame through his work with Baker Boy and his Hottest 100-placing track ‘Marryuna’. The grandson of former Yothu Yindi singer Dr Yunupingu, Yirrmal comes from a long line of brilliant musicians and is undoubtedly set to be one of the best of the fest when he performs with his band Yirrmal and the Miliyawutj.
Also featuring on this year’s Boomerang Festival lineup are musicians as talented and diverse as Move It Mob Style, Eric Avery, Jannawi Dance Clan, and Muggera Dancers.
