In 2013, it was announced that the progressive-rock band The Mars Volta had broken up, putting an end to a legacy that saw six highly-acclaimed albums released over an eleven year period. However, despite the future looking rather bleak, it seems that the band are set to make a comeback, according to vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala.
The Mars Volta formed back in 2001 following the dissolution of Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López’s previous band, At The Drive-In. However in January of 2013, the group announced that a falling out between Bixler-Zavala and Rodríguez-López was the reason for the split.
However, only months later, the pair were working together again in the group Antemasque. Despite talk of an eventual reunion of The Mars Volta, fans were left in the lurch, wondering when and if this reunion would ever happen. Now, it seems that hope has been renewed.
Responding to a fan’s praise on Twitter, Cedric Bixler-Zavala responded by saying “Thank you for the kind words. We will be back soon.”
Damn. I wish I had half the confidence your proclamation has! Thank you for the kind words. We will be back soon

This isn’t the first time that a return for The Mars Volta has been hinted at, with guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López talking about getting the band back together while being interviewed following the second reunion of At The Drive-In.
“At some point, we’d love to do [Mars Volta] again too,” he said at the time. “There’s so much to do there as well. Obviously now we’re focused on At the Drive-In and making this record great and touring.”
So while we haven’t yet got any timeline as to when we’ll see a Mars Volta reunion, we can be pretty certain that, like the reunion of At The Drive-In, it will be relatively spontaneous, and hopefully see yet another tour of Australia by these hugely talented musos.
