Aside from holding down the Rolling Stones signature blues-rock flair, Keith Richards has garnered a reputation for living out the sex-drugs-and rock n roll lifestyle to its most extreme.
During his 50 years as a member of the world’s most enduring rock act, he’s dabbled frequently in the world of illicits (without copping the devastating side effects) so if there’s anyone who’d be able to comment on the current state of substances, it’d be him.
In a recent interview with The Telegraph, Richards revealed exactly what he thought about modern drugs and their use, saying quite simply that he believes they’re “bland”.
“Drugs are not interesting these days. They are very institutionalized and bland. And, anyway, I’ve done ’em all.” he responded when asked his thoughts on the current popularity of durgs like Xanax and Percocets. The interview also describes Richards as still “smoking incessantly” and “speaks as if his vocal cords are coated in thick layers of fur”.
When discussing his sobriety, he admitted that he is “definitely off all of this stuff,” however added that ““In six months’ time, I might be on it again.”
During the interview, he also aired his thoughts on the recent outpouring of retirements form his contemporaries like Elton John saying, “More room for us!”
He also joked about Elton John retirement responding with “after three years on the road with Elton, you would want to retire, too. I’ll take his word for it.”
