If you ever think back to some of the greatest alt-rock bands of all time, you’ll probably toss up the names Pearl Jam and Jane’s Addiction at some point, right? Well, what if there was a way to experience both of these landmark bands at the same time? As it turns out, unless you were in Brazil on Saturday night, you probably missed out on your chance to do so.

As Consequence Of Sound reports, Pearl Jam have been in South America for much of the last fortnight, with the group’s trek culminating in a performance at Brazil’s Lollapalooza on Saturday night where they just so happened to be joined by a special guest.

Halfway through the group’s main set, they welcomed Lollapalooza founder and frontman for Jane’s Addiction and Porno For Pyros, Perry Farrell to the stage. After serenading Farrell with a rousing rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ ahead of his 59th birthday this Thursday, the alt-rock icon hung around to join Pearl Jam in a cover of the 1988 Jane’s Addiction classic ‘Mountain Song’.

To the delight of fans, this wasn’t the only cover that the band dropped in their set, with performances of Talking Heads’ ‘Pulled Up’, Pink Floyd’s ‘Comfortably Numb’, and The Who’s ‘Baba O’Riley’ also making appearances.

Of course, this also wasn’t the first time that Pearl Jam teamed up with Perry Farrell to cover ‘Mountain Song’, with the icons first performing the song together at Texas’ Austin City Limits festival back in 2009. Needless to say, these two performances are a little too far away from Aussie soil for our liking,

With Pearl Jam set to release a new album sometime in the near future, here’s hoping an eventual Aussie tour might result in some similar form of collaboration when they grace us with their presence.
