Jerry Cantrell of legendary grunge act Alice In Chains has opened up about when fans can expect the band’s first album in five years to drop, as well as detailing what it sounds like.
Speaking with Guitar World, Cantrell said that the record is one “we haven’t done yet, I can tell you that” adding that longtime Alice In Chains fans shouldn’t worry about being alienated from the album as “it’s also a record that has all the elements of anything you would expect from us. It’s got our fingerprint. And we’re really proud of the material that we wrote and the performances we captured.”
He went on to hint at what the overall sound and vibe of the follow up to The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here will be, saying, “there’s some really heavy shit, some really ugly stuff, some real beautiful stuff, some weirdo trippy shit… it’s good!”
The upcoming album will also mark the first time in 20 years since the band last recorded in their hometown of Seattle, writing with producer Nick Raskulinecz at Studio X.
“I’m still in the last few weeks of anxiety about screwing up this record,” Cantrell remarked. “The nitpicky and manic part of me keeps saying, ‘We’re not done yet!’ But we’re almost there. The finish line’s in sight.”
He finally added that the album would be due out “probably sometime this summer.”
