As usual, it’s been a pretty big week for music on triple j, with some of the finest local and international acts getting some pretty solid airplay. But just what were listeners loving the most this week? What were the tunes that dominated the airwaves, and who were the artists that now have heaps of new fans after plenty of exposure on triple j?

20. King Princess
Bursting onto the scene earlier this year with the stunning track ‘1950’, King Princess has been making a name for themselves with some expert speed. Now, having released their debut EP Make My Bed last month, the track ‘Talia’ has been doing the rounds on the airwaves this week, getting enough recognition to become the sixth most-played track this week.
19. Gang Of Youths
Gang Of Youths are the gift that keeps on giving, with stunning tunes seeing the group remain at the top of the most-played list, despite not having released any new tunes in quite some time. However, with an awesome Splendour In The Grass performance over the weekend, you can be sure you’ll be hearing loads more of the lads as their Aussie tour creeps ever-closer.
18. G Flip
G Flip is continuing to kill it, with stunning single ‘Killing My Time’ currently serving as the twelfth most-played track on triple j this week. With a strong following behind her, and plenty of folks keen for some follow-up tunes, you can be sure that things are only just heating up for this awesome muso.
17. Miguel
Last year saw Miguel deliver his amazing fourth album, War & Leisure, which featured some huge tracks such as ‘Sky Walker’. Having just performed at this year’s Splendour In The Grass festival, Miguel has undoubtedly made a load of new fans to complement his already-voracious legions of followers.
16. Dean Lewis
Dean Lewis recently dropped his new single ‘Be Alright’, and fans are absolutely here for it. The lead single from Lewis’ upcoming album, we’re pretty certain that this is set to be one of the year’s biggest releases. Currently serving as this week’s fourth most-played track, you can be certain this one will be hanging around for some time to come.

15. WAAX
Brisbane’s WAAX released their absolute banger ‘Labrador’ back in April and it’s being going off like a frog in a sock ever since. Focusing on some pretty deep topics, the tune has been getting some major love from fans over the last couple of months, enough so that the track is this week’s eleventh most-played tune on the airwaves.
14. Ocean Alley
Having won fans all over the world with the release of their brilliant single ‘The Comedown’, last year, Ocean Alley released their debut album, Chiaroscuro, a while back now. Having also served as triple j’s feature album, Chiaroscuro showcases the group’s slick jams and stunning sound, with listeners continuing to love everything they hear from this amazing collective.
13. Courtney Barnett
Courtney Barnett recently made her full-blown return to the charts with her second album, Tell Me How You Really Feel, and listeners have been lapping up every single song from the record. While none of her tracks are in this week’s most-played list, her upcoming Aussie tour might just change that somewhat.
12. Childish Gambino
Old mate Gambino recently dropped some fresh new summer tunes for his fans to jive to. Despite the fact that summer is still quite a few months away for us here in the southern hemisphere, triple j listeners have been loving ‘Summertime Magic’ enough to see it sneak into the seventh position on this week’s most-played list.
11. BROCKHAMPTON
BROCKHAMPTON are gearing up to release their new album, The Best Years of Our Lives, at basically any minute now. Having already released a couple of year-themed tracks, including ‘1999 Wildfire’ and ‘1998 Truman’, fans have been digging these new ones enough to see the former score the honour of being named this week’s fifth most-played track.
10. Skegss
Skegss are also hopping on the ‘new album coming soon’ train, with My Own Mess slated to be released in early September. Not content with letting their reputation as one of Australia’s best live acts do the talking for them, the group recently dropped their newest tune, ‘Smogged Out’. Fans have clearly been digging it as well, with the track being named this week’s third most-played.
9. Tash Sultana
Tash Sultana is getting ready to drop Flow State at the end of August, and fans absolutely cannot wait. With lead single ‘Salvation’ currently the eighth most-played track this week, we can only imagine the sort of hysteria that awaits once the full collection of tunes finally arrives.
8. DMA’s
DMA’s returned with their latest album, For Now, a little while back and fans have been loving the group’s Britpop-infused tunes. With tracks like ‘Do I Need You Now?’ having served as one of the most-played tunes on the station in recent times, the group are undoubtedly on track for another amazing year.
7. City Calm Down
City Calm Down’s newest record, Echoes In Blue, dropped back in April, and the group have been hard at work touring in support of it ever since. With huge tunes such as ‘Joan, I’m Disappearing’ and ‘Blood’ doing the rounds, it’s no wonder that City Calm Down are one of the most exciting names on the Aussie music scene today.
6. Khalid
It’s been well over a year since Khalid released his debut record, but Aussie listeners have been absolutely adoring every tune on the stunning album. Having just visited Australia for Splendour In The Grass, it’s hardly any wonder that his brilliant tunes have been around the airwaves enough to see him score a spot on this list.
5. Amy Shark
After plenty of excitement and a slew of stunning singles, Amy Shark recently released her debut album, Love Monster, to plenty of critical acclaim. Having scored a spot as triple j’s feature album and a #1 debut on the ARIA charts, Amy Shark is undoubtedly on top of the world right now. With ‘All Loved Up’ this week’s 19th most-played track, expect to hear plenty more from Amy Shark in the future.
4. CHVRCHES
CHVRCHES dropped their latest album, Love Is Dead, a couple of months ago, and fans couldn’t get enough of its brilliant tunes. Now, with the group having also performed at Splendour In The Grass over the weekend, it’s hardly any surprise that their slick tracks have seen them get enough airplay to score a place on this list.
3. Lorde
Likewise, Lorde hasn’t released any new tunes for quite a while, but that hasn’t stopped the Kiwi legend scoring some massive airplay thanks to a stunning set at Splendour In The Grass. All we have to do now is sit back and wait for even more shows (and maybe even a new album!), and you’ll see Lorde on top of this list once again.
2. Hilltop Hoods
Hilltop Hoods recently returned with their stunning new single ‘Clark Griswold’, and it’s turned out to be an absolute banger. Featuring Adrian Eagle on vocals, this celebration of South Aussie talent has resonated with listeners enough to see it score the honour of being this week’s most-played track. There’s a pretty strong chance this one could crack the Hottest 100 this year, but will it be enough to get the Hilltop Hoods past that #3 spot at long last?
1. Odette
Odette’s debut album, To A Stranger, is on track to be one of the year’s best releases. With singles such as ‘Take It To The Heart’ and ‘Collide’ seeing this triple j feature album make its way into the hearts and minds of countless Aussie music fans, there’s a pretty strong chance that 2018 could end up being the year of Odette.
