If you ever fancied yourself as a bit of an Aussie hip-hop head and found yourself debating the newest releases over on the OzHipHop forum, you might want to go into damage control, with the iconic forum revealing today that user accounts have been breached.
Back in the day, the OzHipHop forum was the place to discover and discuss Aussie hip-hop music. Reaching its peak at the time before social media became well and truly ubiquitous, the forum was a thriving community in which the underground was brought to the forefront and new and emerging artists received the recognition that they needed.
While the forum has become less of an essential source for Aussie hip-hop heads in recent years, it appears that it has however become a goldmine for those who wish to make everyone’s life that little bit more difficult, with OzHipHop announcing today that users of the site have had their accounts breached.
Taking to Facebook this evening, OzHipHop explained that anyone who has ever had an account should immediately go into damage control in order to make sure they stay safe online by changing the passwords for any online services they might have used the same email and password combination for.
“OzHipHop Forum accounts have been compromised,” the post began. “If you have EVER had an OzHipHop Account you should immediately change your password on other accounts in which you share email addresses and passwords.”
The page goes on to list a number of websites that users may wish to change their online logins for, including online banking, social media, email, and various other services.
“People hack these databases in order to hack other website/accounts you have, the priority is to change your other accounts,” they explained.
“OzHipHop Forum has been taken offline while we investigate this issue. We apologize for this breach.”
While the extent of the damage caused by this breach is not known, nor the method with which those responsible gained access to user accounts, now is the time to head over to that little ‘settings’ option and start thinking of a new password.
