Icelandic musician/producer Ólafur Arnalds creates immersive avant garde soundscapes, which are both steeped in the classical tradition and showcase the latest in technology, blending loops, beats, strings, pianos and more.
His forthcoming record shows off software he has been working on for two years, which turns the humble piano into a robot-driven self-playing bastard child of tradition and technology. He will be busting this out on his upcoming tour.
“The self-playing pianos are a jolt to the creative process that forces me to try new and often surprising things”, Arnalds explains. “In a live setting the pianos are an integral part of the performance due to their generative nature. Each time they are played is a little different, making every performance unique.”
