When it comes to covering a tune, it takes a lot of talent, skill, and dedication to blow the original out of the water. However, we’ve decided to take a look at five of the best modern covers of classic soul hits that come pretty close to surpassing the original.
With artists such as diverse as Dua Lipa, Lauryn Hill, Joss Ston, and Beyoncé covering the likes of Etta James, Civilla D. Martin & Charles H. Gabriel, and Carla Thomas, there sure is some amazing talent in the world, so we’ve decided to craft a little video that explores a few of these stunning covers.
However, kicking off this video is Allen Stone, whose cover of ‘A Change is Gonna Come’ would undoubtedly make Sam Cooke proud.
With Stone hitting up Australia in a couple of months to play a one-off show at the Croxton in Melbourne (oh, he’s also getting married while he’s here as well!), we’re hoping that he might decide to treat his eager audience with this cover during his set.
