Sinéad O’Connor has ignited fierce controversy following a series of Tweets, criticising US President Donald Trump, and stating she never wants to “spend time with white people again”.

Earlier this year, Irish musician Sinéad O’Connor explained that she was changing her name to Magda Davitt in an effort to make herself “free of parental curses”. However, O’Connor announced late last month that she was again changing her name to Shuhada’ Davitt, in honour of her recent conversion to Islam.

“This is to announce that I am proud to have become a Muslim,” she explained to her Twitter followers. “This is the natural conclusion of any intelligent theologian’s journey. All scripture study leads to Islam.”

Now, the artist formerly known as Sinéad O’Connor has divided her fanbase, following a series of messages posted on Twitter last night.

“I’m terribly sorry,” she wrote. “What I’m about to say is something so racist I never thought my soul could ever feel it. But truly I never wanna spend time with white people again (if that’s what non-muslims are called). Not for one moment, for any reason. They are disgusting.”

As Davitt continued her series of Tweets, she hit out at Donald Trump, stating that the power of women will “sing the fucker to sleep”, while also Twitter’s hypocritical nature, and society’s attitudes towards Islam.

While Davitt’s Tweets generated a large amount of controversy from both fans and onlookers, she closed out her series of Tweets by noting how her critics will likely refer back to her previous struggles with mental illness.

In response to this, she simply noted that “If its ‘Crazy’ to care. Then by all means, spank my ass and call me Fruity loops.”

Shuhada’ Davitt is yet to expand further on her comments, or address the criticism that they have generated.
