As Mountain Sounds gear up for a massive 2019, they’ve announced a bunch of new initiatives to ensure the festival can be as environmentally friendly as possible. The Central Coast festival have outlined their sustainability plans for 2019 as well as their hopes for years going forward.
For the first time in 2019, Mountain Sounds will be following in the footsteps of festivals such as Meredith Music Festival and utilising a clean up song where punters will have the chance to get involved in the cleanup. This will involve the public choosing their favourite party song from a poll run on Facebook in January.

The winning track will be played intermittently throughout the duration of the festival, between acts. Each time punters hear the song they are encouraged to get involved and clean up the area nearest to them whilst having a boogie. Volunteers and staff will be handing out garbage bags and getting amongst it, in an effort to keep the beautiful Mount Penang Gardens as pristine as it was found before the festival.
For every bag of rubbish you take to campsite HQ, you go in the draw to win VIP passes to the 2020 installment of the festival!

The festival has also announced that the 2019 installment will be 100% plastic free – a huge step forward for the festival.

On top of this, Mountain Sounds is offering discounts on parking for groups who carpool. If you arrive with four or more people in your car (all buckled in safely of course) your parking will be free! They also have a shuttle service to and from Gosford train station for those who will utilise public transport. Taking festival roadtrips is one of life’s greatest joys – now you can enjoy time with your pals for no extra cost (and you’re helping the environment!)
In coming years, Mountain Sounds is hoping to utilise solar power for parts of the festival. Whilst they currently only use generators for festival essentials such as stages, they hope to cut down their diesel fuel use even further.

The festival is also looking into the use of compostable toilets in the future as well as making their own recycled toilet paper from previous years paper and cardboard waste.
