Metalcore veterans The Ghost Inside have teased a comeback of sorts, previewing a previously unreleased song during a recent video stream.

Forming back in 2004 as A Dying Dream, The Ghost Inside quickly made a name for themselves as one of the best metalcore acts going around. Releasing their debut album in 2008, the band toured the world extensively, visiting Australia about half a dozen times.

In 2015, the band was struck by tragedy, with their tour bus being involved in a serious head-on crash. While the drivers of the vehicles died, some of the band’s members were hospitalised in critical condition, with drummer Andrew Tkaczyk losing a leg in the process.

For the next couple of years, the future of The Ghost Inside was left unclear, with the band making (and ultimately cancelling) plans to tour as part of the 2017 Warped Tour, and upgrading guitarist Chris Davis to a full-time member.

In early 2018 though, the band held their first practice session since the accident, assuring fans “there is a future” for the band, but noting they “still aren’t sure exactly what it looks like”.

Now, the band have teased some previously unheard music.

As Alt Press reports, The Ghost Inside’s Jonathan Vigil and Jim Riley took part in a Twitch livestream recently where they shared a snippet of ‘new’ music.

Titled ‘Aftershock’, the track was apparently recorded sometime before the band’s 2015 accident, ostensibly as part of a follow-up to their 2014 album, Dear Youth.

After playing a brief snippet of the track, Jonathan Vigil took the time to thank everyone for standing by them following the accident.

“It was at a time when the accident took so much from us,” Vigil explained. “It felt like I lost everything, you know? But being able to talk to people brought me back to life. I was having a rough time for a while.”

“I had no plans to play a song, but Jim was like, ‘Why not?’,” Vigil continued. “You guys get one more because I didn’t play the right version and I want you guys to hear the right version.”

Playing a brief snippet of the track, it’s clear that the band had been working on continuing their acclaimed sound when tragedy struck in November of 2015.

At this stage, it’s not clear whether or not the track will see a formal release any time soon, but with The Ghost Inside promising a future for the band, fans are undoubtedly excited to know there’s unheard music in the vaults.
