The Killers have made fans eager for a new record, with frontman Brandon Flowers saying their new album could be here by the end of the year.
Back in September of 2017, The Killers released Wonderful Wonderful. Their first new album in five years, the record was a huge success and saw almost all of the band touring relentlessly in support of the new disc.
After a few months off though, the band returned earlier this week, releasing ‘Land Of The Free’, their first new tune in over a year.
Featuring lyrics that attack Donald Trump’s stance on immigration, along with themes of institutionalised racism and gun control, the tune has been something of a political affair for the Las Vegas rockers.
Speaking on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 program, frontman Brandon Flowers explained that he felt the new tune was a relevant song that the current political climate called for.

“I think it is a very important time right now and ‘enough is enough’ was basically where it comes from, “Flowers explained. “It started in my mind around when Sandy Hook happened and as a father, how that affected me, and then it just started stacking up.”
“It was things like Eric Garner, Trayvon Martin, things like what’s happening at the wall. You know this stuff just didn’t seem to be in harmony with the values that I believe my country was founded on. I would start the song and then I would put it away and say, ‘I’m not the guy to do this.’ Or I would feel inadequate, waiting for … Somebody’s going to write this song.”
“And then it just piled up and I finally just, you know, Las Vegas, Orlando, Parkland and it just kept coming. It was just like I’ve gotta, have to get this out.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Brandon Flowers noted that this new tune is something of a taster for their next record, explaining that they’re hoping to release a new album ASAP.
“In a perfect world, I could see the end of the year having something,” Flowers explained, “But it’s probably more likely that it would be early 2020.”
Back in May of 2018, Brandon Flowers revealed that the band had been hoping to start recording a new album rather soon, though he admitted the idea of another solo record was rather tempting.
“The plan is for it to be a sixth Killers record, but damn, I love my last solo record!” Flowers explained to the Irish Independent.
“We only toured it for a few months and then… The plan is for it to be another Killers record and we have to figure out how to make it work [for Mark Stoermer and Dave Keuning].”
While we’re not 100% sure as to when we’ll receive a new record from The Killers, you can rest assured that it’s on the way. Here’s hoping by this time next year we’ll have the new disc in our hands!
