Elton John is so confident that Mark Ronson will win an Oscar for his work on the song ‘Shallow’, from A Star Is Born.

If you’ve not gone out to see the 2018 remake of A Star Is Born, critics will be the first to tell you that you’re missing out. Having made over $410m at the box office so far, the film also scored a number of Golden Globe nominations, as well as an amazing eight nominations for the Academy Awards.

However, one of the biggest moments of the entire film was the performance of ‘Shallow’. A collaboration between Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga, the track has since been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, and has even topped the charts here in Australia.

Now, one of the most famous names in music has chimed in, with Elton John telling Mark Ronson he’s certain that Ronson’s co-writing work on ‘Shallow’ will win him an Oscar.

As Variety notes, Elton John was speaking on his Rocket Hour radio show on Beats 1 recently, when he called Mark Ronson via FaceTime for a bit of a chat.

“You’ve been around quite a long time now and you’ve had a lot of success,” Elton stated to Ronson. “You’ve worked with Amy [Winehouse] of course, Lady Gaga, Adele, Bruno Mars…”

“I know when Gaga first went to play you the early demos of Joanne and ‘Million Reasons,’ it was really important to me, knowing the kind of record that we were making,” Ronson chimed in. “I was very much like, ‘Did Elton like it?! What did he say?!’”

However, as the conversation continued onto Mark Ronson’s current projects, Elton John took the time to express his certainty that ‘Shallow’ will take home an Academy Award.

“You’re having a bit of a run at the moment,” Elton John explained. “Oh my God — considering what a career you’ve had, you couldn’t have a stronger moment than what you’re having now with the Miley [Cyrus] record, which is fantastic, and you. And then the Gaga, which you won a Golden Globe for, ‘Shallow’.”

“And I bet my house that you’re going to win the Oscar, so make room for it. I don’t want to jinx it, but I guarantee you you’re going to win an Oscar.”

The 91st Academy Awards are set to be handed out in Los Angeles on February 24th, so Mark Ronson won’t have long to wait before he learns if another award is heading his way. Incidentally, both Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper are set to perform the track during the ceremony on the day.

In related news, Elton John announced his final-ever Australian tour dates earlier this morning. Kicking off in December of 2019, the shows will see the Rocket Man himself tour around the country, before wrapping things up on January 31st, 2020.
