There are not many bands in the metal world hotter than Ghost right now.

Court cases aside the band put out one of the best records of last year in Prequelle (saxophone’s included) and sparked both fascination and fear in the broader musical world with their mysteriousness and uncompromising satanic imagery.

Hot on the heels of both broader recognition and a string of musical milestones, including headlining London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall and being handpicked to open for Metallica, frontman Tobias Forge has now confirmed that the group will enter the studio in 2020, something that was only hinted at previously.

“Luckily, this time around, I feel very certain as to what I want to do,” said Forge, speaking to Billboard about the direction of the new music.

“I have tons of bits and pieces and stuff written, and I know that once I really start working that there’s going to be a record which feels very inspired.

“The dramaturgic nature of the records and the stories are getting more and more intertwined nowadays, which I like. It’s almost like working with a series, I guess; you have your characters and you can still fuck with them and add new things and take things away. You can do whatever you want, which is always enticing from a creative standpoint.”

When asked by The Pulse of the Radio if Forge’s current frontman character Cardinal Copia would make a return, or morph into another rendition of Forge’s other character Papa Emeritus, Forge noted that “I have high hopes for the Cardinal.”

“I think he would look fantastic in skull paint, and that’s what I’m hoping for.”
