Fans of divisive rapper Lil Xan have begun to speculate that the artist’s recent announcement of fatherhood might actually be a hoax.
Just last week it was announced that young rapper Lil Xan was set to become a father, mere months after the breakup of his previous relationship.
While we questioned whether this was a responsibility that a bloke who once tore a hole in his stomach lining with Flamin’ Hot Cheetos should really take on, he and longtime friend Annie Smith took to Instagram to share their apparent devotion to each other.
Following on from Smith’s Valentine’s message to him, Lil Xan later offered up another piece of news, revealing he was set to become a father soon.
“Wanted to wait but i just can’t leave my fans in the dark,” he began “It’s official, I’m going to be a father.”
“I love you guys so much and hope you stay along for this crazy journey and I’ve never felt more happy in my life,” he continued. “All of you are invited to the gender reveal party, I promise!”
However, as Buzzfeed News reported, some fans began to think the pair’s parenthood announcement might be a fake, pointing out issues in a recent YouTube video.
Over the weekend, Annie Smith posted a vlog titled ‘FIRST BABY PICTURES!!‘ in which she and Lil Xan view ultrasound images of their forthcoming family member.
While Smith also revealed that she’s nine weeks pregnant (a little further along than first assumed), fans took issue with the image of the ultrasound in the video, noting that it’s exactly what shows up when you Google the phrase “week 9 ultrasound”.
lil xan really thought he got us with this fake pregnancy bullshit. google “9 week ultrasound” and the photo he shows at 6:06 is literally the 8th result👀https://t.co/gjEvDdV7dG pic.twitter.com/YBdUvvckpF

While many of these skeptical fans began to hit back at the prospective parents, Annie Smith soon explained in an interview with E! News that she and Lil Xan were the victims of an internet troll campaign.
“When I posted my YouTube video with my ultrasound pictures, a girl (I’m not going to comment on who) photoshopped them with another persons name, year, birthday etc, and uploaded them to Google,” Smith explained.
“I’m honestly really disappointed that we announced it and now this is the rumor floating around.”
Due to this backlash, Smith states she plans to keep the rest of their pregnancy news under wraps, claiming that the “negativity is too much.”
“I’m traveling and stressed at the moment so i think for the baby and myself it’s best to stay in a positive environment,” she explained. “I really am just staying off the internet for the time being because it’s really sad for me to see these things.”
While this explanation sort of makes sense, some of the images that fans have been citing as showing up in Annie Smith’s video actually turned up in a seperate YouTube video first published back in 2009.
Plus if we add in the fact that the pair plan to keep any further news under wraps, well, that deserves a raised eyebrow or two, if you ask us. Either way, we should know for sure later in the year.
