As we count down the days until Mötley Crüe’s highly anticipated Netflix biopic The Dirt hits our screens, we’ve been reminded of the band’s dark truths. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Nikki Sixx has apologised for the graphic sexual assault story shared in the Mötley Crüe memoir The Dirt.
Sixx wrote in the book about an incident where he was having consensual sex with a woman he knew in a closet. He paused the intercourse to use the bathroom and convinced Tommy Lee to go back into the room and continue having sex with her in his place without her knowledge or consent. “We fucked for a while, then I told her I had to go to the bathroom. I went into the party and found Tommy,” Sixx quotes in the book. “‘Dude, come here.’ I grabbed him. ‘I got this chick in the closet. Follow me, and don’t say a word. When I tell you, start fucking her.’”
“In the closet, I stood directly behind Tommy,” Sixx continues. “He fucked her while she grabbed my hair and yelled, ‘Oh, Nikki! Nikki!’”
The following day, Sixx wrote that the same woman had called him and claimed she was sexually assaulted by someone she’d hitchhiked home with.
“At first, I was relieved, because it meant I hadn’t raped her,” Sixx shared in the book. “But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that I pretty much had. I was in a zone, though, and in that zone, consequences did not exist. Besides, I was capable of sinking even lower than that.”

Sixx now claims that he doesn’t remember telling the contributing editor, Neil Strauss, that story and isn’t sure why it was included in the memoir. “I don’t actually recall that story in the book beyond reading it,” Sixx shared with Rolling Stone. “I have no clue why it’s in there other than I was outta my head and it’s possibly greatly embellished or [I] made it up.
“Those words were irresponsible on my part. I am sorry,” he continued.
Sixx has stressed that he was not sober at the time the interviews took place. He claims that The Dirt was written “during a really low point in my life” where he was frequently binging on alcohol and drugs. “I honestly don’t recall a lot of the interviews with Neil.”
The Dirt is set to hit the streaming service on March 22nd,
