Post-punk veterans Gang Of Four have rescheduled their Aussie tour

Just a week out from when it was set to kick off, English post-punk icons Gang Of Four have been forced to reschedule their upcoming Aussie tour.

Back in November, it was announced that Gang Of Four were set to hit up Australia this March to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their debut album, Entertainment!.

Cited by some as one of the greatest records of all time, Kurt Cobain listed it as one of his top 50 favourite albums (even claiming Nirvana began as a “a Gang of Four and Scratch Acid ripoff”), while the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea claims that it changed his view on rock music.

Notably, INXS frontman Michael Hutchence cited the group as influence, while Entertainment! track ‘Anthrax’ was also used in the 1986 film Dogs In Space, which saw Hutchence in the lead role.

However, just days before the band were set to kick off the Aussie leg of their tour, they’ve been forced to reschedule a number of dates due to illness.

Last month, Pitchfork noted that Gang Of Four were forced to cancel their performance in Brooklyn, New York after frontman Andy Gill was hospitalised with a chest infection.

Sadly, a few weeks on, it appears that Gill is yet to recover from his illness, forcing the band to cancel their upcoming shows in China and Japan, while rescheduling their Aussie tour.

While the original tour was set to kick off in Perth on March 20th, Gang Of Four’s Entertainment! tour has been pushed back to November. While all tickets to the original concerts remain valid, the group have also made it up to fans by announcing an extra date for Adelaide on their return trip.

Sadly, this news might be all-too familiar for fans of the band, with Gang Of Four’s 2014 tour of the country having been cancelled due to a “family emergency”. While the shows were technically postponed, new dates were never announced, and fans have now been waiting eight years for the group to make a return trip to Australia.
