Vampire Weekend delivered a rather stunning Paul Simon cover over the weekend, debuting their cover at an early-morning Saturday show.

For quite a while now, fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Vampire Weekend’s first album in six years, Father Of The Bride.

Releasing in early May, the band have been teasing us with a few new songs each month, adding in a new music video, and Post Malone cover as well.

However, the New York City indie icons recently found themselves in England over the weekend, where they played a trio of gigs as part of their ‘Three Little London Shows’ mini tour.

The most notable of these shows happened to be their Saturday performance which was just a little bit different to their usual gigs, with this one taking place early in the morning.

Despite causing fans to get out of bed earlier than they’d have liked to, the show did contain a few interesting moments, including a cover of Paul Simon’s 1980 track, ‘Late In The Evening’.

In addition to their Paul Simon cover, Vampire Weekend also dropped in a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s ‘I’m Goin’ Down’, while revisiting their version of Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Everywhere’ for the first time in a decade.

The show also featured something of a comical moment as well, with the band deciding to perform their breakthrough single ‘A-Punk’ three times in quick succession.

“Hmm, that song is too short,” quipped Ezra Koenig after the song’s first performance. “These shows are essentially attended rehearsals,” he added before the third performance. “We’ve got a lot of shows to play this year. I’m sorry, but…”

Of course, while ‘A-Punk’ is a brilliant song in its own right, it’s also become the bane of many music-lovers’ collective existences, having served as the song that many fans’ Apple Music libraries play automatically thanks to its alphabetically-superior positioning.

In related news, it’s currently been eight months since Vampire Weekend played a one-off show in Australia, and over five years since their last tour of the country.

While we’re not sure if their new album will result in a few shows on local soil soon, we’re definitely getting our hopes up in anticipation of that possibility.
