After years of constant acclaim, folk troubadour Kaurna Cronin has released ‘Gotta Get Outta This Place’, a fresh taste of his upcoming album.

For years now, it’s been pretty easy to come across the hard-to-categorise sounds of Kaurna Cronin. With rock and pop sensibilities mixed in with a bluesy, folk style of playing, the South Australian musician has been a constant figure on the live scene for quite some time now.

Having performed countless shows to widespread acclaim across Europe, and releasing a number of infectious albums along the way, Cronin has also attracted recognition by way of numerous awards, including the Adelaide Roots and Blues Association, Folk Alliance Australia, and the South Australian Music Awards.

Now, having wrapped up another run of international dates, Kaurna Cronin has released ‘Gotta Get Outta This Place’, the fresh taste of his upcoming record, Glitter Or Dust.

A tune that describes the desire to head out onto the road, and face new challenges outside of your comfort zone, ‘Gotta Get Outta This Place’ is an endearing number, delivered with the passion, emotion, and lyrical style reminiscent of Aussie greats like Paul Kelly or Grant McLennan.

“This song is one I’ve been wanting to write for a long time but had never really managed to get the tone quite right,” Kaurna Cronin explains.

“It’s a song about internal battles of a sense of belonging and love for the idea of ‘one’s home’ and the ongoing feeling of needing to get away from home to experience the unknown to be inspired by different places, people and ideas.”

“It was important for me to try and capture the sense of passion and inspiration in ones home and not dismiss that – it’s about the conflict of urges that one can associate with not wanting to feel ‘comfort’ anymore.”

Backed by a simple yet effective film clip, the video for ‘Gotta Get Out Of This Place’ shows Kaurna Cronin going through everyday tasks which soon end up replaying and reversing, showing these mundane events which are reflected by the song’s lyrics.

“Myself and Cooper (Rees-Jones, CW Creative Productions) tossed around a number of ideas but essentially we just kept coming back to it being such a personal experience for everyone – the sense of wanting to escape their daily routines – so focussing on the moods and movement became the focus of the clip,” he explains of the video.

“Obviously having the musical and lyrical tension with distinct changes of pace had to be reflected in the dynamic of the video – whilst keeping it black and white allowed the focus to be on the emotive mood and expression of the clip.”

To celebrate the official release of Kaurna Cronin’s ‘Gotta Get Outta This Place’, the beloved musician will be heading out on a three-date single launch tour this June, bringing his gorgeous sounds to Melbourne, Sydney, and Adelaide.
