Proving that everyone has their price, Take That have announced a European tour next northern summer, kicking off in the supine glamour of errrr, Sunderland in the north of England. The tour takes in dates across the UK, with further gigs in Italy, Germany, The Netherlands and Denmark.
The main attraction is, or course, that Robbie Williams has now rejoined the band in light of his last few albums stiffing, and the promoter is charging like a wounded bull by UK standards at least – tickets range from $AU85 to $AU145. That’s not much down under compared to what punters regularly get fleeced for here, but it will be a challenge for the promoter, SJM, to sell out four nights at Wembley Stadium in London at a total of over 300,000 tickets in the capital.
It also begs the question – will there be sufficient babysitters available in each city for the then teenage fans who are now thirty-something MILFS to have their children looked after for the night? Will a bunch or thirty-something men be forced to attend the gigs and endure their wives and partners behaving in a manner unbecoming of their age? Will there be enough amyl and ecstasy in each city for all the gay men attending?
These are the important questions that weren’t addressed at the media conference attended by all band members at London’s Savoy Hotel yesterday. Making it an even more attractive nostalgia trip for fans, the concerts will include an intimate acoustic bracket, as well as a section in which Robbie Williams performs some of his solo hits. Time to start up a babysitting agency now!
