From their regional Victorian base, Ocean Sleeper have been busy conjuring up a storm with their new material, and today, the entire world feels it’s wrath with the release of their brand-new cut, Hate Me Like You Mean It.
Hate Me Like You Mean It is the first official release from the band this year, who clocked up considerable hours in the studio Stateside, working with respected studio dweller and known kingmaker Chris Krummett. The track is an unrelenting sonic assault, packing a punch that’ll knock the AirPods clean out of your head. A worthy offering to the gods of Post-hardcore, Hate Me Like You Mean It is a rough and tumble affair with punctuated with a hefty dose of groove and soaring moments of clarity in and amongst the chug.
With a title like Hate Me Like You Mean It, it’s clear the track is thematically heavy as well. Speaking of the story behind the jam, vocalist Karl Spiessel tells Tone Deaf, “Hate Me Like You Mean It, to me, really broke into that psyche of accepting failure as a part of self, due to repetitive cycles of self-destructive traits. It’s about almost wanting to be unhappy, when you feel good it’s uncomfortable so you make yourself feel unhappy. When you’re down, you just keep kicking yourself so you fall deeper into that negative headspace because that feels like home.”
The new single comes just in time for fans to get their heads around it ahead of the bands impending East Coast tour dates, putting them at an AM//PM stage near you later in the month. With 2x Unify Gatherings, a Stray From The Path support and opening for Killswitch Engage, these dudes are more than ready to bring the same storm they conjured in the studio, to the stage.
