Over the weekend, Australia was rocked by the news that reformed ’90s pop icons the Spice Girls would be bringing their live show to the country. Unfortunately, it looks as if our hopes of basking in the golden haze of ‘Wannabe’ have been dashed.

During the final date of their UK reunion tour in London’s Wembley Stadium, Mel B (aka Scary Spice) thanked each and every one of the group’s fans for their support before noting that “we’ll see you in February in Australia!”

In a recent interview with 2Day FM’s Grant, Ed and Ash this morning, Mel B admitted that the group haven’t actually locked a tour in.

“You know me by now,” she explained. “I always say the Spice Girls are going to continue and continue and tour the whole world.

“My thing is, and I’ve got a bee in my bonnet about it, is that we need to come to Australia first out the gate. I announced it on stage, yes, without everybody else signing off 100 per cent, but I figured if I put it out there maybe it’s going to happen.”

Mel B admitted that her bandmates are “not on board fully, yet,” with the idea of Australian shows. “But I will make sure it actually does it happen.”

We’re crossing our fingers that the remaining spice girls —Mel C (‘Sporty Spice’), Emma Bunton (‘Baby Spice’), Geri Halliwell (‘Ginger Spice’)— succumb and give us the tour that we so obviously deserve.
