Are you eager to see King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard play a surprise hometown show in an intimate venue? Then you’d better get yourself down to Melbourne’s Howler tonight!

On Thursday evening, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are set to kick off their latest Australian headline tour with a two-night residency at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre.

Undoubtedly, fans who scored tickets to these affairs are in for one stunning treat for the senses, with the group set to play tracks from their prolific career, while potentially dropping a few new songs into the mix.

However, if you reckon that the Forum Theatre is too far out of your way to see these world-beating musos, then they’ve offered up a last-minute chance for you to catch them live.

Taking to Facebook earlier today, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard revealed that they’ll be kicking off their tour one night early, playing a surprise hometown show at Brunswick’s Howler.

Tickets to the event are just $20 at the door, and sees the band kicking off 30 minutes after doors open at 8pm. But you’d better be quick though, because for a huge band like this playing in a small venue, you might want to wrap up work early to go camp out the front.

To add to this news, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have also dropped their latest single, ‘Organ Farmer’. The latest tune to come from their thrash-metal inspired album, Infest The Rats’ Nest, this tune follows the equally-heavy ‘Planet B’ and ‘Self-Immolate’.

Describing their 15th studio record, which drops this August, the group explained they found influence from “the mid/late 1980s golden period of thrash metal – Metallica and Slayer, certainly, but also lesser-cited bands such as Exodus, Kreator and Overkill.”

“In year 4 there was an older kid who was into Rammstein,” added frontman Stu Mackenzie. “I made friends with him and we put together a performance at our school assembly where we headbanged to ‘Du Hast.’ I got whiplash, which I thought was pretty cool.

“That was my introduction to heavy metal, and soon Rammstein led to Metallica, Metallica led to Slayer, Slayer led to Kreator and Sodom. The German bands really kicked my ass and scared the hell out of me too. Later on, when I picked up a guitar I realised that shit was too hard to play, so I got into rock ‘n’ roll and garage. That was liberating.”
