Sum 41 have given metal-lovers a treat, performing a Metallica medley during a recent appearance at SiriusXM.
Over their two-decade year career, Canadian heroes Sum 41 have managed to make a name for themselves as one of the finest pop-punk outfits in the game, delivering classic hits like ‘Fat Lip’, ‘The Hell Song’, and ‘In Too Deep’ at every turn.
Now, with their next album – Order In Decline – being released today, the group have hit up the SiriusXM studios to pay tribute to one of the greatest thrash metal acts in the game.
Performing a selection of tracks from the band’s ‘80s and ‘90s periods, Sum 41 ripped through a three-song rendition of ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’, ‘Enter Sandman’, and the iconic ‘Master Of Puppets’, undoubtedly giving the classic metal tunes the punky update you never knew that they needed.
Of course, this cover should come as no surprise, with Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley professed his love of the band back in 2017. “They just have such great melodies, even though they’re tough and they’re hard and heavy, they’re like the Beatles of metal,” he explained. “They’re really catchy songs.”
While Sum 41 haven’t announced any new tour dates where you might be able to catch them covering some more of your favourites live, they did make their long-awaited return to Australia earlier this year as part of the 2019 Download Festival.
In related news, Metallica are set to return to Australian shores for the first time in six years later this year. While there’s no word yet as to whether they’ll be covering any Sum 41 while they’re in the country, you can be sure that they’ll likely add an Aussie cover to their ever-growing arsenal of tribute tracks.
