19-year-old rapper Tay-K has been sentenced to 55 years behind bars after he was found guilty of murder.

A Tarrant County jury found Tay-K — legal name, Taymor McIntyre— guilty on Friday, July 19th. The rapper was charged for his role in a July 2016 home invasion robbery, that left 21-year-old Ethan Walker dead. McIntyre was 16 years old when the incident took place.

McIntyre was also sentenced to 30 years in prison on one count of aggravated robbery. He received two additional 13-year prison sentences on two separate counts of aggravated robbery and fined $21,000.

Tay-K was arrested shortly after the 2016 incident and placed under house arrest. He and another man, Jalen Bell, cut their ankle monitors and fled authorities. This led to a national manhunt and spurred the track ‘The Race’, in which Tay-K details his ordeal fleeing from authorities: “Fuck a beat, I was tryna beat a case/But I ain’t beat that case, bitch I did the race”.

Tay-K is facing additional charges pertaining to an incident where he allegedly shot and killed a 23-year-old photographer, Mark Anthony Saldivar. Saldivar’s mother has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against McIntyre, The lawsuit details that McIntyre “intentionally and knowingly and recklessly committed criminal homicide or murder by shooting and killing” her son after he “resisted the attempts against him by (McIntyre) to rob him of his camera equipment.

McIntyre is also facing charges over a robbery that left a 65-year-old severely injured in Arlington, Texas.

Tay-K was arrested in 2017. Since his arrest the rapper has been charged with having a band substance (a phone) whilst in prison, and faced accusations of attempting to organize a criminal gang, Rug Rats.

“In short, we can’t control this guy,” prosecutor Jim Hudson said in court. “We can’t control him when he’s out in the streets and we can’t control him when he’s behind bars.”
