It might have taken almost 30 years, but English post-punk and new wave legends The Psychedelic Furs are set to finally release their first album since 1991.

Ever since 2006, Tool fans have been complaining that their favourite band are taking an exceedingly long time to release their next studio album.

While these fans will finally get their wish next month, that’s small potatoes compared to England’s The Psychedelic Furs, who are finally set to release their eighth studio album in 2020 – 29 years after their last record.

First forming in 1977, The Psychedelic Furs were something of a constant source of good music for a number of years, with tracks like ‘Pretty In Pink’, ‘Sister Europe’, and ‘Love My Way’ becoming radio staples throughout the ’80s.

In 1991 though, the band released their record World Outside, before calling it quits the very next year. While they would reunite in 2000 and continue touring the world, the group never exactly made plans to hit up the studio for a full-length record.

Now, as Billboard notes, The Psychedelic Furs have now signed a worldwide deal with Cooking Vinyl, who will release the band’s first album since 1991 in early 2020.

“It’s been a long-term ambition of mine to work with The Psychedelic Furs, as they’ve made some of my all-time favourite records,” Cooking Vinyl managing director Rob Collins explained to Billboard.

“That means it’s a particularly personal project for Cooking Vinyl, and makes a unique addition to our roster following a very active period of signings.”

“The Furs had been contemplating doing new songs for quite some time,” added band manager Rob Dillman. “The enthusiasm and passion the label has shown for the band and the project made it an easy call…we are very excited to be doing this together.”

Although details about the new release have not been shared yet, the as-yet-untitled record is expected to be unleashed in early 2020, and will hopefully put The Psychedelic Furs back on the charts after many years away.
