Queer icon and musical prodigy, King Princess, has dropped the rather unsettling new video for her song ‘Prophet’, which includes construction workers, football players, stalking crushes, creepy old men, and of course, getting baked into a cake.

Not long ago, King Princess announced that her debut album, Cheap Queen, would be coming out sometime around October, and we’ve been absolutely excited ever since.

Now, our favourite rising star has dropped a fresh new music video for her addictive song ‘Prophet’, and what starts as an average music video, definitely escalates very quickly.

From the first frame to the last, you won’t expect anything that comes your way, especially the gruesome and horrifying way the clip ends. Just see for yourself.

‘Prophet’ is a dedicated slow-burner that plays true to King Princess’ strengths. Her voice that we’ve come to love since her debut 2018 EP Make My Bed sings over sparse beats and rolling drums in typical seductive fashion.

“I can only think about you, and what it’s like to walk around you, and why they like to talk about you, ’cause I can only think about you,” she sings on the chorus.

And those lyrics have never been more poignant than when watching a stalking crush peek around every corner, with wild ideas of baking a King Princess cake in her wicked mind.

Highschool English hats on, we can only assume that when the King Princess cake is being served to the table of old men, its some sort of metaphor for the music industry. That, or maybe she just really wanted to be baked into a cake and cut into pieces. It’s a good analogy for falling in love, that’s for sure.

We’ll be counting the days until October rolls around, and listening to ‘Prophet’ on repeat until the album finally comes out.
