Taylor Swift for Minister of Education.

Taylor Swift‘s brand new album Lover was released on August 23rd, and already it has skyrocketed to be the most selling album of 2019 in the U.S. That’s like, two days out in the open and already Lover has achieved greatness. Now, it’s been revealed that one of the songs featured on it is helping to fund a school. For real.

Frank Dukes, who worked as a producer on the new album, and worked with Swift on the song ‘It’s Nice to Have a Friend’, confirmed that the song does in fact sample Regent Park School of Music’s youth choir. Thanks to this fact, the song now generates income for the Toronto school’s youth program. And with the amount of sales Lover is already making, it looks like the school will be gifted a handsome sum of money thanks to the pop star.

“We made it so that the proceeds from the sales of the song go to fund the school,” Dukes told CBC. “Beyond that, when it gets sampled, money from sample clearances and the royalties — which could be long-standing and pretty significant overtime — would go and sustain the program.”

He continued: “It became this really amazing thing. Spending time with the kids who were a part of the program, it was really inspiring for me to see how having them become a part of something where they really felt engaged and inspired helped open up their eyes to see how big the world is. That if they really want something they just have to do it and they can get it and it’s all within reach.”

Regent Park School is a community school that helps children succeed through the art of music and develop a positive future by practicing their musical passions. The school’s youth program gives young people “highly subsidised quality music education” in neighbourhoods that need it most.

We applaud Taylor Swift for such a kind act.
