The KISS empire is one that transcends simple clever merch branding.

The band have an absurd 2,500 licences to date, with over 100 million items sold and a merch empire that outstrips both Elvis and The Beatles.

Heck – fans don’t even care if the band’s name is spelt correctly – if it’s branded, they’ll buy it.

However, their latest venture will see them break into the world of Australian Motorsport of all thing’s, in one of the more niche marketing moves we’ve seen.

With their (alleged) final Australian tour around the corner (one which can’t come soon enough for the band), the band are set to leave one hell of an impression on the road, with the band announcing a deal with Penrite racing, meaning we will see Gene Simmons mug roaring around the track on a car for the the Gold Coast and Newcastle legs of this years V8 Supercar season.

“We’re thrilled to have joined with the good folk at Penrite Racing to unleash not one, but two Kiss supercars” said the band in a statement.

“We know how fantastic supercar racing is in Australia so we’re honoured to be amongst it.”

The KISS supercars will be driven by drivers David Reynolds and Anton De Pasquale at the GC and Newcastle legs, with Gene Simmons adding “Kiss fans, get to the track early to cheer them on – but keep your engines running because after the race Kiss is going to rock the Newcastle 500.”

Reynolds was pumped up about the chance to rep some glam rock on the track, commenting that “Kiss is one of the biggest bands in the history of music and I am absolutely stoked to get the chance to race in the famous band colours, it’s a huge honour.

“We will also be pumping some of their biggest hits through the radio to fire us up. Fingers crossed we can give Kiss fans a double reason to celebrate.”

The image of Love Gun blaring as a car comes into the final straight is an entertaining prospect to say the least. Rock & roll!
