Set to be one of the most anticipated hip-hop records this side of 2019, DJ Shadow has made sure that his first release in three years is one that has been worth the way.
The album, Our Pathetic Age, features the likes of Run The Jewels, Nas, Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring on the tracklist – it’s a whopping 23 tracks long – including his first ‘fully composed orchestral piece’.
What’s exciting about this upcoming record is how it is traversing not just hip-hop, but the indie and blues scenes too. Into the mixing pot of sounds are more familiar names including Interpol’s Paul Banks, Fantastic Negrito and De La Soul, who feature on ‘Rocket Fuel’.

“There’s songs that are inspired by this energy and seek to harness it, to make sense of it.” DJ Shadow has said.
“In some cases, there’s attempts to salve the wound; in others, the songs merely observe but don’t offer solutions. Despite the title, it’s a hopeful, vibrant album…there is always light in darkness.”
DJ Shadow’s last album, Mountain Will Fall, was released in 2016 and even then, it was the first release from the producer in five years (The Less You Know, The Better, 2011).
