Eric Church features on a just-released new recording of Keith Urban’s latest hit single ‘We Were.’
The timing is significant with ‘We Were’ recently entering the top 10 of the Billboard Country Airplay chart. It’s the 40th time Urban has achieved this milestone.
This re-release with Church will also create renewed interest in the track with Urban, who just announced his first Las Vegas residency next year, and his team no doubt hoping to ultimately get it all the way to #1.
Interestingly, it was Church that actually wrote ‘We Were’ with Ryan Tyndell and Jeff Hyde.
“It made sense when I heard it, not only Eric, but Ryan and Jeff as well. The three of them together have a particular thing, you know? I think they wrote ‘Springsteen,’ as well,” says Urban about the time he first heard the song and decided to record it.
“They just have a good chemistry, the three of them. But Eric has such a knack for storytelling anyway and choosing images and lyrics that they seem like a thousand people must have used them before, and yet they’re completely original.”

This isn’t the first time Urban and Church have released a song together.
They previously collaborated on the #1 airplay hit ‘Raise ‘Em Up,’ in 2015.
That song appeared on Urban’s 2013 album Fuse and was nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards.
It also won CMC International Video of the Year at the fan voted CMC Music Awards in 2016.
Urban is nominated for Entertainer of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year at next month’s CMA Awards.
And he’s heading to Sydney in December for the official Grand Opening of the Sydney Coliseum Theatre.
Meanwhile, it was also announced earlier today that Church will headline the 2020 Country to Country festival in the UK alongside Luke Combs and Darius Rucker. The event will take place a week prior to CMC Rocks QLD in Australia.
