Fred Durst has poked fun at himself, appearing in a new commercial that heavily features the 1999 Limp Bizkit single ‘Nookie’.

Think back to 1999 for a second and you might be inundated with memories of the nu-metal movement that washed over the entire world around this time.

While groups like Slipknot and Korn were helping to further the cause of the genre, this was the year Limp Bizkit well and truly broke into the mainstream with their second album, Significant Other.

Featuring ‘Nookie’ as its lead single, both the record and its most famous tune were major hits around the globe, with ‘Nookie’ even beating out the likes of Pearl Jam, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the Foo Fighters in the 1999 Hottest 100.

Despite this, ‘Nookie’ was something of a contentious hit, with Stereogum famously referring to Fred Durst as a “fourth grade lyricist” and even noting that “aside from the infantile lyrics, the awful rapping, and the yelling, it’s really not that bad of a song.”

Now, 20 years on, Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst looks prepared to poke fun at himself, appearing in a new commercial that focuses heavily on the group’s infamous song.

Premiering late last month, the commercial is for CarMax, the largest used car retailer in the United States, and practically exists to claim that they will buy literally any car from you.

Depicting an increasingly-exhausted mother driving her car around to the relentless soundtrack of ‘Nookie’, the ad makes a rather fair point.

“You’d do anything to get rid of this car,” the voiceover claims, “But who’d buy it, with a CD player that’s stuck playing Limp Bizkit?”

The punchline of the commercial appears as the mother drives up to a crosswalk, only for Fred Durst to cross the street and give her a confused look.

“Just sell it to CarMax. We’ll buy any car, even this one,” the ad concludes.

In related news, Limp Bizkit gave their fans a “little taste of our new album” while performing in France earlier this year.

Currently though, there’s no word as to when the unfortunately-titled Stampede Of The Disco Elephants will be released, having been teased since at least 2012.
