He might be one of the biggest music icons in the world, but Canadian rapper Drake managed to find himself booed off stage at the Camp Flog Gnaw in Los Angeles this weekend.
Back in August, Tyler, The Creator announced the lineup of the 2019 Camp Flog Gnaw festival. An annual event that takes place in Los Angeles, expectations were high for this year’s event, especially considering the addition of names like Solange, BROCKHAMPTON, FKA twigs, YG, and more.
With Tyler serving as one headliner, many fans began to assume that an Odd Future reunion might serve as the mystery second headliner.
This rumour became even more believable once fans realised that former Odd Future collaborators like Earl Sweatshirt, Domo Genesis, The Internet, Taco, and Left Brain were included on the bill.
However, with fellow Odd Future alumni Frank Ocean stepping up his game in recent months, speculation began to grow that fans might bear witness to a rare appearance from the iconic musician, who hasn’t performed live since 2017.
Needless to say, when these fans discovered that Drake was in fact the mystery headliner, all hell began to break loose.
DRAKE WAS FUCKING LIT THANK YOU @tylerthecreator and FUCK YOU to all the fans that booed Drake off. Bunch of ungrateful fucks ruined it not only for myself, but I’m sure for Drake and Tyler also because that man didn’t even say bye and thanks like he always does. #CFG2019 pic.twitter.com/NARS0kJ42D

Here’s a video from Camp Flog Gnaw.
Drake: “I’m here for you tonight. If you want to keep going, I will keep going. What’s up?”
Some fans boo loudly. One yells “No!”
Drake seemingly cuts his set short & ends the show there. “It’s been love.”https://t.co/n1BYrvLThc

I THOUGHT BRINGING ONE OF THE BIGGEST ARTIST ON THE FUCKING PLANET TO A MUSIC FESTIVAL WAS FIRE! BUT FLIPSIDE, A LIL TONE DEAF KNOWING THE SPECIFIC CROWD IT DREW. SOME CREATED A NARRATIVE IN THEIR HEAD AND ACTED OUT LIKE ASSHOLES WHEN IT DIDNT COME TRUE AND I DONT FUCK WITH THAT

LIKE, I LOVE THAT SONG AND THOUGHT THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN…….HE REALLY DID THAT FOR ME AND I APPRECIATE IT BECAUSE HE DID NOT HAVE TO COME AT ALL, SEE OUR WORLDS COME TOGETHER WAS SO GREAT IN THEORY

Kicking off his set with ‘Started From The Bottom’, Drake’s appearance attracted boos and jeers from fans all around Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium, as cries of “we want Frank” began to rise up from every angle.
Powering through his set, Drake dished out a total of nine songs. However, as he fielded a request from Tyler, The Creator for ‘Wu-Tang Forever’, the crowd’s response seemed to overwhelm the Canadian chart-topper.
“I’m here for you tonight,” Drake told the crowd. “If you want to keep going, I will keep going tonight. What’s up?
“It’s been love,” he told the crowd as he prematurely wrapped up his set. “I love y’all. I go by the name of Drake. Thank you for having me.”
Taking to Twitter after the event, Tyler, The Creator was quick to label his decision to book drake as “tone deaf”, while also labelling the crowd as acting like “assholes” during his set.
“I thought bringing one of the biggest artist on the fucking planet to a music festival was fire!” Tyler explained. “But flipside, a lil tone deaf knowing the specific crowd it drew.
“Some created a narrative in their head and acted out like assholes when it didn’t come true and I don’t fuck with that.
“Like, I love that song and thought that would never happen. He really did that for me and I appreciate it because he did not have to come at all, see our worlds come together was so great in theory.”
Drake is yet to make any public comment in regards to the appearance.
