Just weeks after releasing one of the most intriguing records of 2019, Kanye West has revealed that he’s setting his sights on the world of theatre, with his debut opera set to open next week.
What’s the first thing you think of when you hear the words “Kanye West”? Sure, you might have flashbacks to that infamous Taylor Swift incident, you might be reminded of all those classic bangers he crafted over the years, or you might think of his divisive new record, Jesus Is King.
However, we’re pretty damn certain the word “opera” is not one that immediately enters your mind.
As Pitchfork reports, Kanye took to Twitter yesterday to share an image of what appears to be an engraved gold invite to an opera titled Nebuchadnezzar.
Directed by Italian performance artist Vanessa Beecroft, the event is set to take part at the Hollywood Bowl on November 24th, and will feature music from Kanye’s Sunday Service performers, in addition to Peter Colins & Infinities Song.

Named after the Babylonian king of the same name, this is not the first time that Kanye West has referred to the ancient ruler, comparing himself to Nebuchadnezzar during an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1.
“Let me take this Nebuchadnezzar-type character — Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon, and he looked at his entire kingdom and said, I did this,” West explained.
“I stood on the top of the mountain talking about Yeezus, saying, ‘I’m a God’ — I had a guy dressed as Jesus.”
While Kanye West’s upcoming opera is set to take place on November 24th, it’s far from the most exciting piece of news related to the artist to emerge, with Kanye taking to Twitter to tease Jesus Is King Part II with iconic producer Dr. Dre.
While the pair have not worked together in the past, it remains to be seen whether this release is legitimate or if it’s just a caption used for a photo of the two.
If it is real however, it’s unclear how this would affect the release of Jesus Is Born, the record that Kanye teased would be released on Christmas Day.
